Group Pilates, Specialist courses and Private Pilates

I’m a bit confused – What is the difference?

Good question!

Because we know ‘one size does not fit all’ we have a range of Experience Pilates classes to suit you and your needs.  Below is a summary of what to expect in the different types of Pilates classes we run:

Group Pilates – Great Eccleston and Longridge evenings:

Classes taught by Experience Pilates Director, Cath Hopkinson, graduate of Modern Pilates Teacher training course.

Modern Pilates is a contemporary and updated approach to Pilates exercise. Cherry Baker and experienced physiotherapists, Chris Norris and Jenny Heron, have designed the programme.

Modern Pilates has been involved in training many physiotherapists and exercise specialists who use Pilates extensively in the rehabilitation of back injury and muscle imbalance - ideal for rehabilitation.

Modern Pilates is a method of exercise that will condition and tone the body; his methods are very different from many traditional types of exercise.

  • The aim is to work muscles from the inside out, creating a stronger flatter mid section, improved posture, muscle balance, realigning the spine and improving both the function and appearance of the body.
  • Modern Pilates is a relaxing and individual programme that works both the body and mind; it is also aimed at relieving stress and can help improve sleep patterns and reduce tension, specifically in the neck and shoulders.
  • Modern Pilates is suitable for everybody! But is especially suited for those who are:

    • Recovering from back problems, weak abdominals (core stability), stress incontinence and poor posture.

    • Older adults and for those with special needs such as MS, hip, knee replacements and arthritis.

In particular Modern Pilates is excellent for:

  •  Pre/Post Natal Mums
    • Normal Modern Pilates classes are ideal for pregnant mums up to 20 weeks of pregnancy, and if suitable can continue throughout the whole of your pregnancy
    • Help increase function and repair of the pelvic floor along with suitable exercises for the mid section.
    • Tension and muscle imbalance can occur from both breast and bottle-feeding; as it is easy to adapt poor posture when new mothers are stressed and tired.
    • Modern Pilates will not only exercise all the right muscles but will give mum that time out she deserves.
  • Further training has been undertaken to allow Cath to run Breast Cancer Rehabilitation courses.
  •  Modern Pilates is also an ideal additional type of exercise for
    • Runners,
    • advanced fitness enthusiast and
    • dancers alike who will benefit from increased flexibility and core stability.
  • Modern Pilates is a training programme that is taught by physiotherapist and advanced exercise teachers.
  • Class sizes:
    • Modern Pilates delivers small group personal training, classes numbers are limited to 12 clients. Classes are run on a course basis only. Clients are screened and given individual advice and attention throughout the class.
    • One to one training is also available, as well as offering semi-private sessions with 3 clients at her home-based Pilates studio.
